Brian Potts

It was motorcycle racing that led Brian to Photography. When he wasn’t competing in the events he was photographing them. After three years of globe trotting he returned to Australia , garaged his motorcycle and concentrated on his camera. He undertook some serious studies in photography at Prahran College under the guidance of John Cato.

Following the completion of his photographic studies, Brian undertook a graduate diploma in teaching. He then began tutoring in various aspects of photography at different institutions. At the same time he worked in a number of commercial studios specializing in fashion and advertising. His work has been published in such prestigious magazines as Belle, Vogue and Mode.

“I believe students should embrace both the craft of photography and the concepts of the Fine Art tradition” he says. In his advice to students, Brian likes to quote writer and artist Roy Lichtensten ‘An orgy of self-expression is no more productive than obedience to rules’.
