A photojournalistic image must have the impact that will make the reader want to know more about the story being reported. A good image very often becomes an photographic icon. Improving the Photojournalist’s “Eye” and “Vision”, to capture the drama & emotion, suspense & excitement, beauty & ugliness, in newer and interesting ways is the crucial component of this programme. The course is entirely digital, with great emphasis on the use of current technology in photography.
Objectives
1. Provide a good grounding in the aesthetic, technical and personal qualities required to pursue a professional career in photojournalism. Students are exposed to the issues of style and genre.
2. Provide inputs for understanding the role of photojournalism in shaping and reflecting contemporary society and the ethical issues that are critical for responsible photojournalism.

Methodology
The teaching methodology will include lectures, slide shows, assignments, critiques, in-class discussion, brainstorming, individual / group presentations. You will work on and off campus on individual photography projects in the Nilgiris District, besides working on various projects outside the district in consultation with the faculty. Your assignments will involve researching, shooting and preparing relevant photojournalistic images and making single and group presentations.
